The day started with a beautiful sunrise, promising sun and heat and joy…
After much faff, but a good breakfast (yup porridge) and hot shower, prepared for the day (sunscreen included) off I plunged down the steep and stoney cart track to Hebden Bridge.
I knew the climb out the other side was going to be serious, but when I got to this bit I have to admit it was time to get off and push… Too much for me by about 5°
About then I thought to myself, it’s very humid, hope this cloud lifts soon…
Mist and cloud soon turned to rain…
My decision to take the scenic route over the moors past Widdop reservoir may not have been the best…
It was raining a lot in the following pic..
It was raining a lot all day.
I had a rather dejected brunch in the Sainsbury’s in Colne… I was soaked through, cold, and dripping water all over the place.
I stayed there for a while considering my options.
Rain started to clear around 2 I think, so I headed off again, trying to get warm again with a bit of effort.
Just as I joined the canal I remembered about the waterproof socks. I stopped, drank coffee, and put them on. They rock! I was a fair bit happier after that.
Here’s me at there highest point of the L & L canal. I have two layers of waterproofs on…
And here’s the bike… Same place…
I’d figured out I’d lost too much time to the weather to make it to the campsite I’d intended, but wasn’t really sure how far I was going to get.
Eventually made it to Settle, bedraggled, but that’s not too far off target. Will have some extra km to make up tomorrow, but it was planned to be a shorter day and the weather looks better.
Found pub. Got a room in B&B. Ate enchiladas. They were good. Nice place Settle, nice folks with good dogs.
